The Big Picture: Market Struggles
It has been almost 11 years since the equity markets bottomed out on March 9, 2009, at the height of the financial crisis. Investors were recently provided with a reminder of those turbulent days. On February 24, 2020, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) dropped 1,031.6 points (3.6%). This was the first time it had fallen more than 1,000 points in over two years. During the same trading session, the broader S&P 500 tumbled 3.4% while, domestically, the S&P/TSX dipped a more modest 1.6%.
