motionball Halifax reached its goal this year raising over $75,000 for the Special Olympics Canada Foundation. Saturday, July 19th, 2014 marked the 6th Annual motionball – Marathon of Sport in Halifax. It was a fantastic day for the event that saw over 300 people descend on a new venue for this year at the Halifax Speed Skating Oval and Commons. The event kicked off with Opening Ceremonies that set the tone for the day, pumping up the teams for a full day of sports and excitement!
Twenty teams of ten played side by side with VIP Special Olympians in soccer, ultimate Frisbee, flag football, ball hockey, soccer baseball, relays, obstacle courses and bocce ball. Teams ran through an even bigger inflatable obstacle course that almost doubled the size of last year’s obstacle course! The heat didn’t stop teams from hopping inside one of the fan favorites; an inflatable hamster ball that has you racing your opposing team to the finish line.
motionball Halifax Event Directors, Dave Jones and Chris Rafuse, both Assante Hydrostone Advisors and Cher Digdon, The Roy Halifax Sales Specialist help bring Motionball back to Halifax each year with a dedicated team of volunteers, sponsors and returning teams. It’s a collaborative effort that makes this event such a success each year!
Dave Jones says, “motionball – Marathon of Sport is such a unique event where we play with and alongside the people who we are raising money for –our Special Olympic athletes. It’s an event that breaks downs barriers and raises awareness. This is our 6th year running the event in Halifax and we are very excited with the growth of the event every year and even more excited to say that so far the motionball brand nationally has donated over $4.5 million dollars and we are now donating close to $1 million dollars per year to Special Olympics with events running in 14 cities across Canada.”
